The Culinary Scene: Savor Charleston

No trip to Charleston is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. Charleston's culinary scene is rich, diverse, and offers a fusion of flavors that celebrate the South.

Start your gastronomic adventure at Husk, a renowned restaurant that focuses on local ingredients and traditional Southern dishes. Their menu changes daily based on what’s fresh and in season. Reservations are highly recommended, as this spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

For a more casual dining experience, head to Fleet Landing, located on the waterfront. The seafood here is unmatched, and you can enjoy outdoor seating while savoring dishes like fried calamari or shrimp and grits.

Don't forget to make a stop at the Charleston City Market, where you can sample local foods and purchase unique crafts. It's a great way to experience local culture and grab a souvenir or two!

Fun Outdoor Activities

If you love the outdoors, Charleston has plenty to offer. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a must-visit. With over 60 acres of beautiful gardens, you can spend hours wandering through azaleas, camellias, and magnolias. The plantation also offers boat tours and wildlife exhibits, making it a great place for families.

For those who enjoy the beach, Folly Beach is only a short drive away. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, you can swim, sunbathe, or try surfing the gentle waves. There are also plenty of beachside restaurants where you can grab a refreshing drink or snack.

Rich Arts and Culture

Charleston is a hub for arts and culture. The Spoleto Festival USA, held each spring, showcases talents in music, theater, and dance. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience performances from emerging artists and famous personalities.

You can also visit the Gibbes Museum of Art, which focuses on American art with a southern connection. The museum often hosts exhibitions, events, and educational programs that allow you to immerse yourself in Charleston's artistic heritage.

Our small group trips typically range from 1:1 to about 8 travelers total. This allows for more flexibility, deeper connections, and a more personal experience wherever we go.
  • Who leads the trips?
Currently, all of our trips are personally guided by me, Susan, the owner of SueQ Travel. I travel with each group to ensure everything runs smoothly and that we make the most of every moment.
  • Do I need to plan anything, or is everything handled?
Everything is planned and arranged for you. That includes accommodations, transportation, and scheduled activities. Some meals are also included. All you need to do is pack your bags and show up ready to enjoy.
  • What makes SueQ Travel different from a big tour company?
We focus on small group travel for a reason. With fewer people, there is less hassle and more heart. Our trips feel like traveling with friends rather than being part of a large crowd. Plus, I am right there with you, ready to adjust plans and provide local insight along the way.
  • Can I travel solo, or do I need a group to join?
Absolutely. Many of our travelers come solo. We welcome individuals, pairs, and small friend groups.
  • Are your trips physically demanding?
Most of our trips involve a moderate level of physical activity. This usually includes walking tours, light hikes, and exploring on foot. If a trip is more relaxed or more active than usual, that will be noted in the trip description.
  • Will I have any free time?
Yes. While the days are thoughtfully planned, we always leave space for rest, spontaneity, and those magical moments you cannot schedule. Whether you want a quiet afternoon or time to explore on your own, there is room for that.
  • Do I book my own flight?
Unless stated otherwise, travelers are responsible for booking their own flights. SueQ Travel can assist with flight bookings if needed. We also urge travelers to wait to book your flight until the trip has been officially confirmed. I am happy to offer guidance on the best arrival and departure times or which airports to use.
  • How do I join a trip?
If a trip is listed on our website and open for booking, you can reserve your spot online. If you have a custom trip in mind, reach out to us at info@sueqtravel.com and we’ll work together to plan something just for you.

  • Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. We strongly recommend travel insurance for all travelers. It helps protect you in case of unexpected delays, cancellations, or emergencies. We are happy to recommend trusted providers if you need help finding a policy.
  • What if plans change or the trip gets canceled?
Life happens. If SueQ Travel needs to cancel a trip for any reason, you will be given the option to transfer your payment to another trip or receive a refund based on the terms outlined at booking. We also suggest booking flexible flights and travel insurance for your own protection.

Most of our trips are designed for adults, but we do offer occasional family-friendly or mother-and-child trips that are perfect for younger travelers. Each trip will clearly note if it's suitable for children or teens.
  • Do I need a passport?
If we’re traveling internationally, yes, you will need a valid passport. Make sure it’s up to date and will not expire within six months of your travel dates. For U.S.-based trips, a government-issued REAL ID is now required.

  • What if I get sick or injured during the trip?
Your safety is always a priority. I travel with every group and can help coordinate care if something unexpected happens. We recommend that all travelers carry travel insurance that includes medical coverage for extra peace of mind.
  • Can I arrive early or stay after the trip ends?
Definitely. Many travelers choose to add extra days before or after the group itinerary. We can offer suggestions or help with bookings if you'd like to extend your time in the area.
  • What’s the age range of your travelers?
Most of our travelers are adults ranging from their 30s to 70s, though we have welcomed both younger and older guests as well. We focus more on shared travel values like curiosity, kindness, and flexibility than on age.
